From July 1, the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Melbourne will play host to more than 50 concept vehicles and future models, as well as a raft of current showroom cars.

Among the must-see list, the exclusive Audi R8 GT and Lexus LFA are certain to take the limelight on their respective stages, while show stoppers including the all-new Bentley Continental GT, Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 and Maserati MC Stradale are certain to draw crowds old and young alike.

While exotic concepts may be out of the reach of most, organisers say a number of very important new models will also get the attention of new car buyers.

Korean manufacturer Hyundai will present its highly anticipated Veloster three-door sports car, curvaceous Elantra and all-new Accent small car, while from Japan, Toyota will debut its new Yaris light car and revised HiLux commercial utility.

British marque's Jagaur and Land Rover will present respectively their upgraded XF sedan and Evoque SUV, the latter making its local premiere at the Melbourne show.

French manufacturer Peugeot will launch its all-diesel 508 sedan and wagon range, while also debuting the refreshed 2012 model year 308, while Czech car maker Skoda will double its current model range with the new Fabia light hatch range and Yeti softroader.

AIMS will also see the long awaited debut of the Volkswagen Scirocco R, as well as new additions from Subaru, including the new Impreza sedan, XV Concept and Liberty B4 GT300 race car.

In addition, Holden, Kia and Mercedes-Benz have promised glimpses of at least nine future and upcoming models between them.

"We have more new models and concepts coming than any show I can recall in recent times," said AIMS event director, Russ Tyrie.

"A number of our exhibitors are displaying four or five new models and concepts, which is a tremendous coup for the motor show.

"It promises to be an exciting event with visitors being able to see such a large number of vehicles that they have never seen before.

"It all adds up to an action-packed show – and a huge amount of choice for anyone looking for a new car."

The Australian International Motor Show opens to the public at 6pm on Friday, July 1 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
